Martin & Guerin Design Research - Influencing the future of design

About Us

We Move All Design Professionals
Toward Evidence-Based Design

Martin & Guerin Design Research, LLC (MGDR) was established in May 2013, based on more than 15 years of collaborative research by its principals, Caren Martin, PhD, and Denise Guerin, PhD, both faculty in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota. MGDR provides premier design research and design research educational consulting services. We improve peoples’ experience in the built environment by providing research to interior designers, architects, facility managers, business owners, manufacturers, environmental designers, and other end users. Additionally, our research provides some clients with benchmarks so their design outcomes can be measured.

Based on this research, our clients can use an evidence-based design (EBD) approach to identify and solve problems, thus enhancing occupants’ performance and well-being. We also contribute to design research education and teaching that reflects and leads global standards. Our research team is nimble and experienced in adapting our services based on our clients’ needs. We apply an academic research focus to produce credible, valid, and reliable findings based on appropriate research design, including data measurement, collection, and analysis techniques often grounded in a literature review of refereed journal articles—the most rigorous type of literature available.
